My Favorite Nor Cal Eats

Hey everyone!

So there seems to be one thing that my friends or coworkers seem to talk about every day. What might this thing be?

Food.

No matter the subject it always seems to steer towards our favorite restaurants and recipes. So today I am inspired to share with you some of my favorite places to go that are near to me here in Northern California!

1. I’ll start us off with a restaurant in my very own home town, Sopa Thai in Nevada City! This Thai restaurant is truly a gem. I have been eating the amazing Thai food there for 12+ years, and my husband even had a job as a bus boy there in our earlier dating years (did I mention we live in a small town?). Even though I have always loved the food, traveling to Thailand and being able to experience all the foods there left us with an ever deeper respect for Sopa Thai at home. The flavors are on-point to the traditional tastes of Thailand cuisine, so if you are in the area and want some amazing Thai food, this is your spot!

2. J.J.’s Fish and Chicken

Now, if you know me personally you know that one of my favorite shows is Diners Drive In’s and Dives. This place belongs on that show! Total hole in the wall place in the Sacramento area, but seriously the tastiest of fry batter I have had! If you are looking for something organic and locally sourced, steer clear. As ive said in prior blogs I will happily sacrifice something being good for you for something that just plain old tastes good. JJ’s serve a variety of fried fish and chicken as well as sides such as mac n cheese and spaghetti. They also have personal slices of cake, literally ever kind of cake, that is delicious. My husbands friend showed him this restaurant and we have been absolutely hooked!

3.Another Nevada City spot! Jernigans Tap House and Grill is the spot to get artisan burgers and sandwiches with a wide selection of craft beers. Jernigans also has the best hot wings and french fries in town, along with my personal favorite, beer battered fried dill pickle spears *drool* . So stop by and watch your favorite game while enjoying all they have to offer!

4. I will admit, Ive got a sweet tooth. When it comes to an ice cream sundae, there is really no way to go other than Leatherby’s. I spent quite a few years of growing up in Sacramento, and my family went there all the time for any occasion, so it has a special place in my heart. You can have a (VERY LARGE) sundae with pretty much any flavor combination you could imagine. The pictures will explain below!

5. Moving along to the bay area region, the one place I always think to stop at is Tony’s Pizza Napoletana. Pizza is one of my top 3 favorite foods, and this traditional style pie is worth any amount of traveling to get there. The most perfect crust sets the base for the locally sourced fresh ingredients that accompany the house made tomato sauce. They are always super busy, so come prepared to wait a little during lunch and dinner hours.

6. Also in the Bay Area, 4505 Meats. We first discovered these guys at a small booth in Outside Lands Music Festival and it took us a few years to finally hunt down the permanent location. The meat here is So. Freaking. Good. They serve burgers, brisket, and a variety of other meats depending on availability. You can smell this place from a block away, luring you over. So. Good.

Alright everyone, that finishes up my list of top Nor Cal eats! If you ever in these areas I hope this has convinced you to try one of these delicious locations, you will not be disappointed!

Be back soon,

Love,

-S
